 Some couples choose to personalize their rings by adding engravings. It can be your names, a phrase, wedding date, or a design. Hand engraving is a skill that requires years of training so With These Rings works with a master engraver to engrave each couples' design onto their ring. If you want a special design but aren’t sure how to translate it to a ring, we can help bring your ideas to life! Each engraving project is unique to each couple. A great place to start is by collecting inspiration. This can be photos, sketches, descriptions, other pieces of jewelry, etc. Once we have an idea of what you have in mind, our illustrator will draw several options for you. From there you can let us know what you like and what you don’t, until we land on a design that feels just right.

Things to think about:

  • Is there imagery that is meaningful to the two of you?

  • Is there a landscape, plant, symbol, etc. that is tied to a special memory in your relationship or represents where you will be getting married?

  • Do you want your rings to match?

  • Do you want your designs on the outside of the ring or the inside?

  • Do you want your design to be continuous all of the way around the ring?

  • Do you want gemstones incorporated into your design?

  • Some designs will require a minimum band width. We will want to be sure that your design ideas and desired ring width are compatible.

Bring your Own Design

Some couples come with their designs fully in mind. This could be a technical drawing, simple sketch, or photo. Drawing and sketches can be done on computer/tablet or on paper. It doesn’t matter if it is a fancy sketch book, a piece of scrap paper, or bar coaster.

Keep in mind that engraving cannot be taught in a one day workshop. Even if you want the engraving to mimic your own hand, they will still be engraved by our master engraver. This step will take 4-6 weeks after your workshop. Some engravings will require minimum band width. We will want to be sure that your design ideas and desired ring width are compatible. Lettering

Engraved lettering can be done in:

  • Simple block

  • Classic script

  • Your own handwriting

  • You can choose any writing system or alphabet

*TIPs*

  • If you are not sure if you want an engraving or what you would want, don't feel like you have to add it just because you can. Simple bands are just as meaningful, especially when you make them with your own hands!

  • Engravings can always be added down the road at any point in time. Some couples choose to do this to mark an anniversary.

  • An engraving doesn’t have to be super serious. It can be something that makes you smile. Just make it personal to you.

  • Don’t worry about your engraving being timeless. You are getting married now. It is ok to capture your relationship at this point in time.
